Staff seminar on "The Art of Teaching"

"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." - Mark Van Doren. Teacher's workshop on the Art of teaching by Fr. Edward Philip SJ was conducted on 03-06-2024. The session addressed the way of being for a teacher. Self awareness about oneself and defending oneself was done through self assessment questionnaires. The resource speaker also threw how it is important for us too see how our subtle behaviors can affect the child emotionally and mentally. He addressed the issues teachers face with the current era of teaching and learning. The workshop consisted of various self reflective exercises and questionnaires. It helped the teachers reignite their passion towards teaching and learning with a fresh approach. There was also a session on safeguarding minors and vulnerable adults for all the staff members of St. Joseph's Indian Institutions by Fr. Cyprian Tellis SJ. He addressed the importance of child protection and our responsibility to provide a safe environment to them as educators. He threw light on the importance of building a consistent culture of protection. Being aware of the signs of abuse and neglect whether in school, or at home knowing how to report any concerns in a timely and effective manner. The speaker also addressed the laws in place for preventing abuse- POSH and POCSO. We got insights on how we need to form a zero tolerance policy towards sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
